ACHP Chief Medical Officer Dr. Connie Hwang Appointed to PCORI Board of Governors

Washington, D.C. – Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) Chief Medical Officer and Director of Clinical Innovation Dr. Connie Hwang has been appointed to serve on the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors. The PCORI Board of Governors represents a broad range of perspectives and collective expertise in clinical health sciences and advises PCORI on its ongoing comparative effectiveness research efforts.

“A brilliant and driven health care advocate, Dr. Hwang is an excellent addition to the Board of Governors,” said ACHP President & CEO Ceci Connolly. “In this role, she will continue to advance meaningful clinical improvements and provide thoughtful, evidence-based guidance on the advancement of PCORI’s essential work.”

PCORI is an independent, nonprofit organization authorized by Congress in 2010 to fund research that provides patients, their caregivers and clinicians with the evidence needed to make better-informed health care decisions. ACHP has closely collaborated with PCORI on a number of projects and has been the recipient of several PCORI Patient Engagement Awards, the most recent to study and disseminate evidence related to peer-led mental health interventions.

In her role at ACHP, Dr. Hwang engages with clinical leaders across ACHP’s nonprofit member health companies to identify emerging trends and provides leadership on initiatives that drive improved patient outcomes and experience. She also collaborates with industry organizations and other stakeholders to align on principles of value-based care.

“I’m honored to be joining PCORI’s Board of Governors,” said Dr. Hwang. “PCORI’s mission and research insights are more important now than ever, as we address our nation’s health care challenges at the start of this new decade.”

Members of PCORI’s Board of Governors are appointed by the Comptroller General of the United States and represent perspectives of the patient, consumer, clinical, insurance, research, employer, industry and health care policy sectors.
