RELEASE — Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Joins ACHP

ACHP grows membership to 20M Americans in 32 states, District of Columbia

Washington (April 2, 2018) – The Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP), a network of nonprofit, provider-aligned, community-based health plans, today announces that Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, based in Wellesley, Mass., joins its membership. The addition of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care brings ACHP’s reach to more than 20 million lives across 32 states and the District of Columbia.

Established nearly 50 years ago, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and its family of companies now serve more than 3 million customers in New England and beyond. The organization joins other ACHP members in their shared dedication to better health outcomes, lower costs and quality care. Harvard Pilgrim advances care in its community through initiatives such as broadening access to behavioral health services through telehealth options and negotiating outcomes-based contracts with pharmaceutical companies that tie payment for medications to results in real-life Harvard Pilgrim patients.

“Harvard Pilgrim’s commitment to social responsibility and innovation aligns with our shared goal of making health care better,” said ACHP President and CEO Ceci Connolly. “ACHP members are working to address our nation’s opioid epidemic on the ground, and that is one area in which Harvard Pilgrim has taken a lead by eliminating copays for opioid overdose medication naloxone. We welcome Harvard Pilgrim to join us as we further our mission to provide high-quality, affordable coverage and care.”

Harvard Pilgrim President and CEO Eric H. Schultz will serve on the ACHP Board of Directors.

“We are excited to join a network of likeminded organizations guiding the industry to higher quality standards and transforming the health of their communities,” said Harvard Pilgrim President and CEO Eric H. Schultz. “ACHP provides the opportunity to collaborate with leaders who share our values, which will help us make a greater impact in the communities we serve.”
