Washington (October 3, 2019) –In response to President Trump’s executive order on Medicare, the following statement can be attributed to Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) President and CEO Ceci Connolly:
“ACHP is encouraged by the Administration’s focus to innovate and expand choice within Medicare Advantage (MA) to improve the lives of seniors. Our member organizations put individuals at the center of their care, and through unique provider-aligned models, deliver high quality, affordable coverage and care, particularly in MA.
“Consistently, ACHP plans have been at the forefront of lowering costs and improving the value of MA coverage. New flexibilities, including expanding the definition of basic benefits, will allow our member organizations to continue to meet the unique health care needs of the communities they serve, and address the pressing issues of social determinants of health.
“ACHP plans have embraced the use of technology, advocating strongly for enhanced telehealth benefits and modernized network adequacy standards. ACHP has encouraged CMS to allow plans to add telehealth specialties mid-year to strengthen coverage options. Further, our member organizations have advanced a 21st century standard for evaluating provider networks to replace the outdated time and distance requirements.
“In addition, many of our health plans provide timely, accurate, personalized cost and quality data, helping consumers make informed health care decisions. We support the focus on increasing transparency at all levels of care in an effort to reduce costs and improve health outcomes.
“ACHP members improve the health of the communities they serve and lead the transformation of MA to promote high quality, affordable care and superior consumer experience. We look forward to working with the Administration to advance a MA program that delivers the highest value to America’s seniors.”
ACHP recently released a Medicare Advantage educational series demonstrating how MA outperforms fee-for-service Medicare and explains why seniors are choosing higher value, quality coverage and care. Four fact sheets focus on the overall value of the MA program, diversity of enrollees, quality and transparency, and the financial benefits for taxpayers and seniors. You can find all fact sheets here.
