Washington (December 17, 2019) – In response to House passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2020, the following statement can be attributed to Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) President and CEO Ceci Connolly:
“ACHP applauds the House of Representatives for passing a one-year, bipartisan funding package that will provide needed stability to government health programs and the individual market, fostering access to affordable coverage and care for millions of consumers.
“We have long advocated for lowering prescription drug prices and increasing competition in the prescription drug market. Inclusion of the bipartisan CREATES Act is a key step in discouraging anticompetitive behavior, removing barriers to competition for generics and providing consumers relief.
“Our member health plans are dedicated to the health of the communities they serve. They believe in the importance of access to preventive and comprehensive care and have consistently offered robust coverage, regardless of geographic location or health status of their members. We are pleased by Congressional efforts to improve access to affordable health coverage on the exchanges and to help consumers obtain the coverage and care that best fits their individual health needs.
“The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is the leader in evaluating health care effectiveness and driving informed health care decision making. We are thrilled that Congress shares this sentiment and look forward to our continued work with PCORI to accelerate the adoption of evidence-based practices and improve health outcomes.
“ACHP supports the broad, bipartisan budget deal and the inclusion of measures critical to the sustainability of our health care system. We encourage the Senate to pass the legislation swiftly and the President to support this important legislation.”
