Washington (December 15, 2018) – Ceci Connolly, President and CEO of the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP), issued this statement following the District Court decision in Texas v. United States of America regarding the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act:
“The decision by the district court in Texas is deeply troubling. It once again creates uncertainty and instability in the market and threatens to create chaos as seniors, families and hardworking Americans search for affordable coverage.
“Fortunately those who purchase coverage on the exchange can still enroll for 2019. But the decision puts future coverage at risk for 20 million Americans, particularly those with pre-existing conditions. It also jeopardizes recent Medicaid gains in states across the country.
“ACHP is eager to work with the administration and both parties in Congress to secure affordable coverage and quality care for all Americans. Our member health plans have stayed the course, regardless of website woes, legal drama and challenging markets. They’ve covered bare counties, sustained financial losses and remained committed to people in their communities.
“ACHP will continue to examine the opinion, but it is clear that this is just the beginning of a long legal fight.”
