Dr. Jennifer S. Lee Joins ACHP as Chief Medical Officer

Physician, scholar and former public servant leads clinical innovation and data analytics

Washington, D.C. – Dr. Jennifer S. Lee joins the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) as Chief Medical Officer. In this role, Lee will lead ACHP’s Clinical Innovation and Data Analytics teams, spearheading research and programming on patient experience, delivery transformation and value-based coverage and care. An experienced physician leader, Lee will help ACHP drive health plan performance improvement, and advocate for higher quality standards and patient-centered health care policies.

Previously, Lee led the successful implementation of Medicaid expansion for the Commonwealth of Virginia as Medicaid Director. As Deputy Under Secretary for Health for Policy and Services at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, she oversaw telehealth, health informatics, strategic planning and national policy for key clinical service lines, such as primary and behavioral health for the Veterans Health Administration.

“With a unique skill set in both Medicaid and quality, Jennifer brings a wide body of knowledge to our team as CMO,” said ACHP President and CEO Ceci Connolly. “Jennifer’s experience in the government and as a physician and scholar will undoubtedly advance ACHP’s efforts to promote equity and affordability in our health system.”

Lee is an associate professor of emergency medicine at George Washington University, a board-certified emergency physician at Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic and a visiting scholar at the National Academy of Medicine, where she focuses on value initiatives and alternative payment models to foster population health.

At the beginning of the COVID outbreak, Lee frequently appeared as a medical expert on CNN. She has also served as a White House fellow and as Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Lee received her bachelors from Yale University, medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and completed her emergency medicine residency at Johns Hopkins University.
