ACHP member health companies — spanning nearly 40 states and Washington, DC – are regional, community-based health plans that have been serving their neighbors for decades.

They are nonprofit, answering to their customers and patients instead of shareholders or investors. That makes them more nimble and community-centric than the big, for-profit, national companies. ACHP members can be quick to market with innovations and solutions that advance access to high-quality, affordable coverage and care.

Member health organizations do that by collaborating with their provider partners. Payers and providers know each other, live in the same communities and bring vital perspectives to the table that advance patient-centered care and outcome-based reforms.

Those collaborations are essential in addressing some of today’s biggest health care challenges, including deliberate improvements to health equity and assessing and treating social risk factors like food security, stable housing and transportation. Because ACHP member health organizations have been in their communities on average for 42+ years, they know the full inventory of local resources that can be tapped to improve health and wellbeing, even if that’s outside the clinical setting.
