ACHP will continue to prioritize public health and improve health care quality, accessibility and affordability by working with the incoming Trump Administration and 119th Congress in 2025 and beyond.
Chief among ACHP’s priorities is advancing the strategies outlined in its MA for Tomorrow initiative, to build upon the success of Medicare Advantage. With MA now covering more than half of Medicare beneficiaries, ACHP and its members look forward to working with the new administration to implement MA for Tomorrow’s policy pillars to expand access to the high-quality care and coverage seniors deserve.
ACHP remains committed to improving the consumer experience by ensuring access to a robust, competitive market with a multitude of easy-to-navigate coverage options. To achieve this, the incoming administration can support the advancement and creation of new options in the ACA and commercial markets, including policies to preserve competition within the Small Group Market. ACHP also recommends strategies to improve provider directories, which the administration should utilize.
ACHP has long prioritized approaches to combat high prescription drug costs. In 2022, the Inflation Reduction Act introduced new tools to mitigate costs, notably enabling Medicare to negotiate the price of high-cost drugs. ACHP hopes the incoming administration and Congress will preserve this law and implement its tools to lower the cost of additional prescription drugs. ACHP has also asked the current Congress to pass the bipartisan Affordable Prescriptions for Patients Act of 2023 – if not passed in the lame-duck session, it urges for the legislation to be reintroduced and supported by the Trump Administration.
ACHP remains deeply concerned about severely misaligned Medicaid capitation rates in at least a half dozen states which threaten to impose burdensome costs on managed Medicaid plans. We have called on the Biden Administration to use its statutory authority to review state capitation rates and, should this issue remain unresolved, we will seek the Trump Administration’s support in addressing the concern as well.
Making health care better remains the core of ACHP’s mission and we are confident we will have many opportunities to continue our efforts under the Trump Administration.
