The Top Ten Health Care Podcasts of 2022

By Nicole Dascenszo

It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the end of another year. We had no shortage of important discussions about health care this year, from the continued strains on our health systems due to the pandemic to the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, ensuring that millions of Americans can retain access to high-quality health coverage.

With another productive year behind us, it’s time to take stock of the phenomenal achievements and demanding challenges we’ve faced. And since many of us will be travelling over the next few weeks, what better way to take stock of 2022 than by revisiting some of the most thoughtful, interesting podcasts from across the health care industry?

With so many options to learn from experts across the industry about the pain points, findings and insights impacting health care, this list represents just a fraction of the fantastic conversations happening in our industry. As you find yourself traveling and reflecting this holiday season, we hope you might find these podcasts to be a valuable listen.

Healthy Dialogue

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we’re cheating a bit here by touting our own podcast, but please indulge us just a little bit: the Healthy Dialogue podcast is focused on thoughtful, compelling conversations with sharp minds, and this year’s episodes are some of the best listens we’ve put out. Dr. Mandy Cohen, former Secretary of Health in North Carolina and now a leader at Aledade Care Solutions, gave compelling insights into how the federal government drives higher-value care. Later in the year, we also had a fantastic conversation with Morgan Health CEO Dan Mendelson to discuss employers’ role in shaping health care.

Permanente Medicine

Permanente Medicine, hosted by one of our amazing members, Kaiser Permanente, kicked the year off with a candid conversation about how to make our communities healthier. This podcast won Modern Healthcare’s 2022 Healthcare Marketing Impact Award and continued the year with topics such as the intersection of technology and health as well as the history of the organization.

Her Story

ACHP’s president and CEO, Ceci Connolly, hosted an episode of Her Story this year with her friend and fellow health care industry leader Dr. Lisa Simpson – and she wrote about it on her LinkedIn profile earlier this month. Mentorship is something so critical to career advancement and being able to hear from Lisa about her experience with mentorship offers a window into how she came to find such great success in her career in health.

Tradeoffs

Tradeoffs dives deep into the health policy debates that impact us all. With episode topics ranging from medical debt to health data to new treatments and everything in between, these conversations provide an in-depth overview of key issues affecting health today. An episode from earlier in the year examines the history of Aduhelm, a controversial and expensive Alzheimer’s treatment that ACHP has spoken out about.

What the Health?

Julie Rovner, chief Washington correspondent for Kaiser Health News, and other fantastic health care journalists dish up the inside scoop on health policy updates from the nation’s capital in this weekly podcast.

NEJM This Week
