Washington, D.C. – Today the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) issues the following statement regarding the newly announced Transition COVID-19 Advisory Board and the outcome of the U.S. presidential election:
“ACHP is encouraged by the creation of the Transition COVID-19 Advisory Board and President-elect Biden’s plans to combat COVID-19. There is much work to be done to stem the raging pandemic and ACHP is eager to work with the Advisory Board and the President-elect’s transition team to mitigate the virus and save lives.
“We strongly agree with the priorities for the Advisory Board, including the focus on widespread testing and creation of a national testing and contact tracing strategy to ensure that everyone who needs a test receives one. We also support an open enrollment period to give all Americans the opportunity to obtain the coverage they need and extending COBRA to help Americans maintain coverage during the crisis.
“ACHP members know the importance of telehealth in ensuring continued safe and convenient access to coverage and care, especially during this pandemic. As leaders in virtual care, ACHP urges the incoming Administration to build upon the current momentum to ensure telehealth remains accessible for millions of people in the years to come.
“ACHP members swiftly and nimbly rose to the challenges created by the novel coronavirus to address the needs of their communities, prioritizing prevention, testing and treatment. They continue to be on the frontlines of coordinating care and committing workforce and financial resources to combat this crisis.
“ACHP and the top-performing, non-profit health plans it represents congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their historic election. ACHP looks forward to working with the Biden-Harris Administration, as well as members of Congress, to improve affordability, availability and outcomes in the U.S. health care system.”
ACHP recently published its policy priorities for the next decade in Healthcare 2030: ACHP’s Roadmap to Reform. Additional information on efforts of ACHP plans and their affiliated systems during the COVID-19 public health crisis is available here.
