A steady climb in the number of people receiving the vaccine is helping turn the page on the COVID-19 pandemic. But minority groups and other underserved populations continue to lack critical access and bear the brunt of the virus.
Deeply rooted in the communities they serve, members of the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) are prioritizing targeted outreach and support of their most at-risk populations:
- Dean Health Plan is providing no-cost transportation to and from vaccination appointments for its Medicare-eligible population
- Geisinger Health Plan is directly sending medical devices and equipment to home-based vulnerable members through a partnership with Tomorrow Health
- Kaiser Permanente is filling information gaps for COVID-19 prevention and vaccines through a comprehensive education campaign featuring trusted social media influencers and bilingual public service announcements
- PacificSource is combatting underlying social needs through active community engagement and enhancing access to direct health care services
A recent letter to the Biden Administration COVID-19 Equity Task Force highlights additional on-the-ground efforts of ACHP member plans in communities across the nation.
The pandemic continues to highlight stark disparities in our health care system. Serving as trusted community partners, ACHP’s nonprofit organizations remain committed to providing members with equitable resources and support to bring an end to the virus.
