Washington, D.C. – In response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on Affordable Care Act, ACHP President and CEO Ceci Connolly issued the following statement:
“Now more than ever, access to top-quality coverage and care is vital to the health and wellbeing of individuals and families across the country. ACHP is grateful that the Court has fully upheld the Affordable Care Act, an instrumental law that has significantly expanded coverage and care across America—including to more than one million people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, the Court has helped avert a national catastrophe that would have adversely impacted millions across the country, taken us back a decade and turned the entire health care system upside down.
“We are hopeful that this historic decision will restore stability to the individual market – and be the push Washington needs to make true progress in building upon on what works and strengthening the ACA. ACHP and our nonprofit health plan members stand ready to work with Congress and the Administration to foster a stable, secure individual market that provides millions of Americans access to affordable coverage and care.”
ACHP’s previously filed amici briefs reinforced the lack of standing for the plaintiffs in this case and highlighted the importance of the ACA to the millions of Americans who benefits from it every day. The Court’s dismissal of the case based on standing is the strongest rebuke to date of challenges to the Affordable Care Act.
