Washington, D.C. (March 18, 2024) – Ceci Connolly, president and CEO of the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP), released the following statement about the ongoing Change Healthcare situation:
“ACHP and its member plans are grateful for the attention Secretary Becerra and the leadership at HHS continue giving this unprecedented cyberattack on our nation’s health care system. We appreciate the progress Change Healthcare and UnitedHealth Group have made to reinstate process claims payments but remain concerned about the duration of the crisis, how future security threats will be addressed and how quickly our member plans will resume normal operations.
Since the outset of this situation, ACHP’s nonprofit community-based health plans have been in constant contact with their provider partners, keeping them apprised of updates, rerouting claims processing connections, offering flexibility within existing contracts and advancing payments where necessary. Their unique relationships with providers have resulted in minimal processing disruptions across their provider partnerships.
While Change Healthcare and UnitedHealth Group work to resume normal business operations, ACHP and its members share the concern expressed by other health plans that Change’s ability to process future claims must be attested to by external, third-party organizations to be safe and secure. Patients and providers deserve to trust these systems are functioning as intended.
ACHP looks forward to continuing its partnership with its members and the Biden Administration to end this crisis as health plans turn their attention to the “last mile” of providers – particularly the smallest and most vulnerable providers. Importantly, ACHP commits to supporting its members as they navigate through the remainder of the cyberattack’s disruptions.”
